A beginner’s guide to Adobe Premiere Pro 6 – Part I

Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe premiere pro is a software application that focuses primarily on video editing. It is an important component of the Adobe Creative Cloud which also involves video editing, designing of graphics, and web development programs. Being a major player in video editing, Adobe Premiere Pro is thus, revolutionary software that makes editing simpler and more creative as well. Released in November 2016, Adobe Premiere Pro 6 is the newest version of Adobe Premiere Pro. Premiere pro for beginners can be cumbersome software if not learned to be used properly.

Due to its high value and productive aspects, it is essential to understand the ways to operate this software smoothly. There are some very important components of Adobe Premiere Pro 6. Here are some ways which can make Premiere Pro for beginners look easy and convenient:

 1. The Welcome Page

The welcome page is the entryway to Adobe Premiere Pro 6. It displays 3 options namely New Project, Open Project, and the Help option. While New project allows you to work on a new task, the Open project option allows you to rework on your previous project and make modifications.

 2. Format Dialogue Box

The Format Dialogue Box shows up on the screen only when a New project has been selected. It helps to modify the format of the project as and when required. The basic changes in the project can be done in 3 categories: Audio, video, and capture. For beginners, it will be more convenient if any sort of editing to the project is done according to the default settings.

 3. Scratch Disk

The contents of the dialogue box in Scratch Disk are Captured Video, Captured Audio, Video Preview, and Audio preview. The selected options in the respective contents as written above should the same as the name of the project that needs to be worked upon. Hence it is essential to give a distinguishable project name for easier use and convenience of a premier pro by beginners.

  4. User Interface

The user interface of Adobe Premiere Pro 6 has been improved by large extents in comparison to the earlier version. The new version is specifically good to look at, and the interface is pretty cool too. The leftmost down corner of the screen displays the name of your project as you have saved it or named it.

 5. Project Panel

The project panel is that workspace where you upload the videos, graphics, or audios that are to be edited. The project panel most importantly consists of an effects category which has the following options:

  1. Presets
  2. Audio effects
  3. Audio transitions
  4. Video effects
  5. Video Transitions

According to your preference, you can select the type of effect that you want to apply to your project.

 6. Importing a video

Importing a video in premiere pro by beginners is a considerably simpler task. Videos can be imported in the project panel. After the selection of the project editing category, double-clicking on the black region would lead to a pop-up screen with “import” written on it. Now browse through your files and select the video you want to edit and click on “Open” at the right-hand bottom of the pop-up. This will import the video into the project panel.

 7. Sequence

The sequence option is important to drag the video into the source pane. For creating a sequence, click the option named “sequence” present in the project editing panel. A pop up follows on clicking the “sequence” option which contains the default configurations as required for the video editing process. For ease of use of premiere pro for beginners, it is suggested and recommended that the editing is done keeping the default configurations intact.

The above process and steps are helpful in making your video ready for editing. The steps have been explained in a lucid and brief manner aimed at allowing the understanding of premiere pro by beginners to be a simple and easy endeavor. The readers should by now understand that premiere pro is not so complicated after all.
