With the countless selections presented by Photoshop, it could take a long time before you figure out what function is for exactly what and how to use it? If you are looking to create ghostly text using Photoshop, you’re in luck.
Step1: It starts with creating a new document by File>New or by pressing ctrl+N/cmd+N.
Fix the width and height as 1600 pixels and 1200 pixels, respectively. Give a name to the photo- any text of your choice, and set the resolution to 72 pixels per inch.
Step2: Once the document is open, press D to set your background and foreground colour to black and white, respectively. Next, fill the entire image with black colour by Fill Tool>Edit>Fill or just press Shift+F5.
Choose black for colour in the Fill Dialogue box. Press OK.
Or, since black is already set as the background colour, just press- alt+backspace/opt+delete, and it will be done automatically.
If this is what it looks like, don’t worry. You’re not blacking out. This is what it should be like.
Step3: Now, either select Horizontal Type Tool or press shift+T repeatedly, till it comes.
You can choose the font type of your choice. For example’s sake, we’ll use “Microsoft Tai Le” “Bold” and font size 72 pt. You can change all this later.
Select font color as #23d2f8.
Step4: Now choose Move tool from Tool panel or just press V.
Step5: Now right-click on your text and click on “Rasterize type.”
The panel should now show the name of your text in the panel.
Step6: Alright, almost halfway through to create ghostly text using Photoshop. Now activate your text layer and copy it to a new layer by this- Layer>New>Layer via Copy. Or you can use the keyboard shortcut- ctrl+J/cmd+J.
The panel will show your text’s copy. Repeat this two more times. Your text will still be the same, though.
Step 7: Now activate the first option containing your text- the one which is not a copy. To provide a blurry effect go to filter>blur>motion blur.Set the distance to 194 pixels and angle to 90 degrees.
Step 8: Now activate the first copy of your text. Go to filter>blur>motion blur again.
Again, set the distance to 194 pixels but the angle of 0 degrees. Press OK.
Step 9: Now to merge this layer with the first one press ctrl+E/cmd+E. After this filter>lur>Gaussian blur to blur the text a little more.
Set the amount to 6.3 pixels.
Step10: Just a few more steps to create a ghostly text using Photoshop. Now merge the next layer by first clicking on its panel and then pressing ctrl+E/cmd+E.
Step11: Now go to the bottom of the layer panel and click on “add layer mask” to add a layer mask to the next layer.
Step12: Select gradient from tool panel or press shift+G repeatedly, till it shows up.
Choose white and black as your foreground and background colours, respectively.
Select type as “foreground to background” and mode as “reflected gradient” in the options bar.
Step13: Go to layer>new layer>via copy or just press ctrl+J/cmd+J to duplicate the layer and increase the brightness to twice.
Step14: Go to Add adjustment>hue/saturation to change the colour of the image.
To give a final touch of nice ghostly effect increase the saturation to +100 and reduce hue to -73. You can increase or decrease the saturation based on your choice.
And thus ends our pursuit of creating ghostly text using Photoshop.
